Goal
River Street Poker was created to provide the greater Savannah-area community a recreational vehicle by which to learn, hone skills, and compete at No-Limit Texas Hold’em poker. High-quality poker is both encouraged and rewarded, yet not at the expense of our players’ enjoyment of the experience, itself. Fun is a priority at RSP. Our hope is that by providing fun, well-run events for league members featuring high-quality poker, league-wide pride will develop to the extent that where our poker is played becomes as important as how well. Subsequently, the eating and drinking establishments which host our events will feel satisfactorily supported, a true symbiotic relationship between players, hosts, and organizers develops, and a successful league which sustains itself in perpetuity results. A thriving league will also be well-positioned to be a regular and relevant member of the community, able to contribute to and support a variety of good causes.
Membership
League membership is free of charge and is open to anyone, regardless of poker skill level, 18 years of age or older who provides the league with his or her name and a valid email address, and also signs an agreement pertaining to the prohibition of player participation in gambling in any form at all RSP events.
Reach
River Street Poker began league play in December 2011, at venues on Savannah’s Southside with plans to expand rapidly in the Savannah area. We aim to have tournaments running six days a week across the greater-Savannah area so that a game is always available for league members regardless of where they may be.
Events
Tournament-style No-Limit Texas Hold’em is what we play at RSP. A league season encompasses an entire calendar year and consists of daily events, which are always open to any and all league members and the public, as well as 12 monthly events to which qualification is earned via performance in the daily games. The season culminates with a league Main Event which rewards the league’s most successful players of the season. There is no limit to the number of daily tournaments in which a league member may participate.
Daily tournaments are structured with blind-level increases at regular intervals such that a typical event will last approximately 2 to 2 ½ hours. All tournaments are presided over by a qualified Tournament Director. Players compete for chips following RSP Tournament Rules until a winner is determined by a single player accumulating all the chips in play. Any player who finishes 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in any given month’s daily tournaments qualifies for one of twelve River Street Poker Monthly events. Any player who makes the final table at a monthly tournament gains a seat in the River Street Poker Main Event at year’s end. Monthly and yearly events will usually feature larger starting chip stacks and longer blind levels.
RSP will also periodically conduct special events related to player performance as well as charity events throughout the season. The Shamrock Shootout is one such event. It is a single-table tournament rewarding the league’s winningest players in any given month. This is an expedited blind-level event for ten league players who accumulate the most “shamrocks” – first, second, or third place finishes during the month’s daily events.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to winners of every daily RSP tournament. They will usually consist of food and/or beverage vouchers redeemable at the host venue and/or material items provided by RSP. The number of prizes and value of each are commensurate with the number of players participating in any given tournament. As well, prizes for winning may vary in value from one venue to the next. Food and beverage vouchers themselves carry no cash value and are subject to the host venue’s rules of redemption for each which may change at any time and without notice.
The River Street Poker Monthly features correspondingly cash prizes given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-place finishers. These prizes are awarded by RSP and may change from one event to the next. Exact descriptions of each will be announced on a monthly basis. In addition, all players who make a final table at a monthly tournament* will receive a custom River Street Poker card protector to acknowledge his or her achievement.
Finally, in addition to the distinction as champion of the most important tournament of the season, the winner of the Yearly Main Event will receive cash prizes to be announced yearly.
*Applies to players in good standing with RSP league.
